- Why is my measured DPI different from the number on the box?
- Sensors are calibrated at the factory in coarse steps, and the lift-off height and the surface both change how many counts a centimetre produces. A few percent off is normal. A result that is half or double the claimed value usually means the browser did not get raw input and Windows pointer speed scaled the counts; check the note under the result.
- What is pointer lock, and why does the browser ask for it?
- Pointer lock hides the cursor and hands the page the mouse's movement directly instead of a cursor position. It is the same permission games use in the browser. Without it, the page only sees the cursor moving across the screen, which Windows has already scaled. You can leave it at any time with Escape, and the tool releases it the moment you let go of the button.
- Does Enhance pointer precision affect the result?
- In raw mode it does not, because the sensor counts are read before Windows touches them. In the fallback mode, where the browser only provides cursor movement, Enhance pointer precision is Windows' own acceleration and it changes the count with speed. Turn it off and set pointer speed to the sixth notch before measuring in that mode.
- What does acceleration do to aim?
- With acceleration, the same hand movement moves the cursor further when it is made quickly. Your muscle memory has to learn a curve instead of a fixed ratio, so flicks overshoot and slow adjustments undershoot. Most players turn it off everywhere: in Windows, in the mouse software and in the game.
- What is the sensor's maximum speed, and how do I know if I hit it?
- Every sensor has a top tracking speed, quoted in inches per second, above which it loses counts or stops tracking. The peak speed shown here converts your fastest moment into metres per second using the measured DPI. If the fast pass reports clearly fewer counts than the slow one, you either passed that limit or the mouse applies smoothing at speed.
